Is the economy killing the Brookline & Newton housing market? | How is Brookline & Newton real estate?

Homes for sale in Brookline

Let me tell you something. People in time get used to everything. Even a recession? Yes, people even get used to a recession. The secret is that there are still people who are securely employed, who have decided that with the interest at all-time lows and the prices down, now is a perfect time to buy.  It no longer makes sense to rent an apartment with Boston apartment rental prices climbing.  There are empty-nesters  who want to get closer to the city ready to pay cash for a condo. There are rich kids who just got married who are ready to spend Granddad’s money. There are people getting divorced, people inheriting homes they don’t want to live in, There are people buying homes in Brookline, Newton, Needham where the prevailing idea is getting out of the stock market and into real estate. There are landlords increasing their holdings.  As Mark Twain said “buy land they ain’t making any more of it”.

Brookline condo sales have remained steady.  Homes for sale in Newton, Needham, Newton and Brookline have also kept steady with many increasing in value.  With Brookline, Newton, and Needham schools remaining at the top of schools state wide it’s not a surprise.   The Warren report listed December sales as being down but I believe this to be due to a lack of inventory.  There are not many homes for sale.  But with the mild winter we have been having spring will be here soon….
