Entering the Brookline real Estate market

Boston.com recently had a story about the best places to own real estate over the last ten years in Massachusetts.  Brookline was the second best place behind Cambridge.  Brookline real estate prices since 2005 have increased an average of over 6%.  Looking at recently sold real estate prices in Brookline show a median sale price of $1,188,750.  While many would consider 6% as just ok if you consider Athol who had a decrease in real estate prices of over 56% Brookline’s numbers compared to most MA homes for sale are great.

 

Brookline is a wonderful Town to live in.  Only roughly six square miles it is surrounded on three sides by Boston and one side by Newton.  Its made up of three main commercial areas Washington square, Coolidge Corner and Brookline Village.  Each commercial area is only one street deep with a healthy mix of national and local mom and pop stores.  Residentially Brookline is divided by North Brookline and South Brookline the dividing line being Route 9.  North Brookline neighborhood’s include Coolidge Corner, St Mary’s also know as Lower Beacon Street, and Washington square.  Washington square has both Aspinwall hill and Fisher hill, while Brookline Village has several neighborhoods near Longwood medical area including Pill hill know for its large Doctor’s mansions (hence the name).

 

Coolidge Corner, Washington Square, and Brookline Village all are within walking distance to public transportation and you will find most Brookline condominiums here.  Most South Brookline houses are not as close to Public transportation but usually homes have larger lots and hence bigger backyards.

 

Brookline is a great place to live and has many types of neighborhoods each with something for everyone
